Level 1/2/3/4/5 Schedules

What are these "Level 1/2/3/4/5" schedules?

It’s just a way to describe how much detail a schedule has. Think of it like a set of zoom lenses on a camera—each level shows you a different amount of detail.

  • Level 1 (Master Plan): The big picture. One page showing the main milestones for the whole project. Perfect for the management or the client.
  • Level 2 (Management Summary): Shows the main phases of the job. Used for high-level planning and reporting to management.
  • Level 3 (The Project Schedule): The most common one. The detailed work plan based on Work Breakdown WBS Structure which is normally based on Area, Discipline or vice versa to run the job weekly and monthly.
  • Level 4 (Detailed Work Schedule): “What’s happening Day to Day every week?” It’s a detailed cut from the Level 3 schedule for Supervisor and leading hands based on resources to control timeline and productivity.
  • Level 5 (Daily Plan): The nitty-gritty. This is the specific task list for your crews each day.

Which level do I need?

Most Companies and Contractors need a solid Level 4 schedule to run their job. The other levels are for bigger companies who need to report up and down the chain.
