What is Schedule Tracking?
The ongoing, disciplined process of updating your schedule against actual progress — recording what’s been achieved, adjusting forecasts, and recalculating the critical path — on a regular cycle throughout the project or asset maintenance campaign.
Why it matters
A schedule that isn’t tracked regularly is just a plan, not a management tool. Inconsistent or infrequent tracking is one of the most common reasons schedules lose credibility with clients — and it’s also where a lot of the groundwork for later EOT claims either gets built properly or gets lost. Good tracking means consistent data date discipline, appropriate percent-complete methodology (physical, duration, units, or performance-based, chosen deliberately rather than defaulted), and honest progress recording.
